Trap Cards

Trap cards are cards with a purple border that have effects can hinder your opponent's turn. For the most part, trap cards are used to harm your opponent and in some cases can even benift the use or do the opposite depending on what you want. For the most part, trap cards have a single effect that can only be activiated during your opponent's turn but there are exceptions to the rules. To play a trap card you have to place it face down during your turn so that you can activate it during your opponent's turn (NOTE: once on the field it cannot be returned to the hand unless by an effect). Be warned, most Yu-Gi-Oh! players will suspect your face down card to be a trap so be have some straigy when using them. Trap cards can be divied into 3 different categories of trap cards: normal, continuous, and counter each of which have a different symbol to tell them apart.

Normal traps are your basic trap card that will usually only have one effect and can only be played during your opponent's, they don't have a symbol. Continuous traps are traps that once activated stay on the fild and don't go to the graveyard once the effect is completed, they have an infinity symbol. Finally; conter traps are cards that counter something that your opponent did and can't be responeded to unless by anotehr counter trap, they have a curved arrow symbol.
