Skillet is an American Christian Rock band that was formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1996. Skillet originated when John Cooper and Ken Steorts met after their former bands disbanded. The two of them were incouraged by their pastor to start a side project and form their own band. They decided to go through with the idea and called the side project Skillet. A few months after the band was formed, Trey McClurkin join the band and they were brought on by a record lab called ForeFront Records and in 1996 they debut with their album Skillet. Since then Skillet has released 10 albums, selling over 2 million coppies, and is currently in the production of realasing their 12th album Revolution. Before the release of the ablum Revolution, Skillet release one of the songs that will be included in the album Unpopular. Over the 28 years that Skillet has been around, they have recieved a total of 10 awards, 2 of which were Grammy Awards and the other 8 were GMA Dove Awards. Due to the band's relentless touring schedule, the band was also ranked in the top five of the Hardest Working Bands of 2011 by Songkick.com. Skillet has also gone through a handfull of different band members, with the only origional member remaining being John Cooper, and currently the band only consists of 4 members.
